Seven years after the events of the Dragon Ball Z, the Earth is at peace, and its people remain free of hidden dangers throughout the universe. However, this is a temporary silence; the sleeping evil wakes up in the darkness of the galaxy: Beerus, the cruel God of Destruction. Disturbed by the prophecy that he will be defeated by "Super Saiyan God," Beerus and his angelic servant Whis begin a search of the universe to find this mysterious person. Dragon Ball Z takes five years after the end of the anime Ball Dragon, and Goku is now an adult and the father of his son, Gohan.
A stranger like a man named Raditz arrives on Earth in space and traces Goku, showing him that he is his long-lost brother and that they are members of a heroic race of the late city still called Saiyans. The Saiyan had sent Goku (formerly known as "Kakarot") to Earth as a baby to conquer the planet, but he suffered a concussion shortly after his arrival and lost his memory of his work, as well as his blood thirst. Raditz and the two chiefs, Vegeta and Nappa are the only Saiyan warriors left, so Raditz comes to ask for Goku's help in conquering the frontier lands. When Goku refused to join, Raditz reduced Goku and Krillin to a single strike, kidnapped Gohan and threatened to kill him if Goku did not kill 100 people in the next 24 hours. Goku decides to meet his arch-enemy Piccolo, who has also been defeated by Raditz in a previous meeting, in order to defeat him and save his son. The fight ends with Goku stopping Raditz so that Piccolo can hit them with a deadly movement called a Special Beam Cannon, injuring both of them. Before Raditz overcame his injury, he revealed to Piccolo that two other Saiaans were much stronger than him and would come to the Dragons Balls in one year.
After seeing Gohan's hidden power, Piccolo takes him into the wilderness to train for the upcoming battle with the Saiyan Elites. In the afterlife, Goku travels the million-mile Snake Way to train under the rule of the North Galaxy, King Kai. King Kai teaches him the techniques of Kaio-ken and the Spirit Bomb. Despite being violent, Piccolo loves Gohan while instructing him to learn independence. This creates an unexpected emotional bond between the two.
A year later, Goku is renewed with the Dragons Balls, but King Kai is shocked as he realizes that Goku will have to take the Snake Way again to get back and he won't do it until hours after the arrival of the Saiya. Goku's allies joined forces to fight until Goku's return, but they proved to be incomparable to Nappa and the "Prince of All Saiyans", Vegeta. Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu and Piccolo all perish in battle, with Piccolo's death causing the Kami and Dragon Balls to disappear completely. When Goku finally arrives on the battlefield, he takes revenge on his fallen friends for easily defeating Nappa before crippling him by breaking his spine in the middle. Vegeta angrily released Nappa for failing to kill Goku.
Goku uses several Kaio-ken marks to win the first confrontation with Vegeta, which ends with a fierce ki struggle, but it comes at a huge cost to his body. The vegetables come back and create an artificial month to be converted into the Great Ape, which they use to harass Goku. Krillin and Gohan feel that Goku is in trouble, and they are fighting for the club with Vegeta, who now appears invincible. They are assisted at key times by Jajirobe, who cuts Vegeta's tail to restore her to normalcy. Goku gives Krillin the Spirit Bomb he made, and Krillin uses it to hurt Vegeta. Vegeta was finally defeated when he was crushed by Gohan's Great Ape form, and returned to his boat as Krillin approached to finish him off. Goku reassures Krillin to save Vegeta's life and allows her to escape from Earth, while Vegeta promises to return to destroy the planet in retaliation for Goku's humiliation.
During the war, Krillin hears Vegeta refer to the original set of Dragon Balls from his homeland of Piccolo, Namek. While Goku was recovering from his injuries, Gohan's best friend, Krillin and Goku Bulma went to Namek to use the Dragons Balls to rehabilitate their fallen friends.
